Brand Project - Skype
This project was developed as part of a group project where a brand was chosen, and ideas were developed for product concepts relating to the chosen brand. The forms of these products were developed and externalised in the form of block models.
SkypeBook facilitates preverbal communication, between people before they even pick up the phone. Using GPS and RFID technology, it allows the user to tell whether the person they are about to call is able to answer. If not, it can identify in more detail why it is not convenient, helping the user call again at a better time.

SkypeBook displays a list of contacts, and their statuses. For more detail, individual contacts’ records can be viewed. Icons are displayed to indicate the nature of the contact’s availability, the best route through which they can be reached, and, if they have set one, a personal greeting.
As you get into the car and turn the ignition, a proximity sensor sets your status to ‘Driving’. Knowing this, callers can decide whether the call about to be made is urgent enough to proceed whilst knowing that you are driving.
The products are designed to look consistent across the product family and to be in keeping with the brand identity.

This project doesn’t have any association with the Skype® company and was conducted as a project in contextual design.
